Komati Clinches 4-3 Match for `Dogs at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team won its third dual match in a row, defeating Pacific 4-3 on the road on Wednesday. The outcome wasn't decided until the final match of the day as sophomore Eric Komati remained undefeated on the season in singles competition.
The Bulldogs split the first two matches with 8-3 scores, but freshmen Youssef Hassan and Joshua Zeoli were unable to remain perfect on the year together as they fell 10-5 on the match tiebreak to Alex Hamilton and Alex Gianni.
Pacific grabbed a 2-0 advantage as Ashwin Shama gave freshman Youssef Hassan his first loss of the season, defeating him 6-0, 6-1 in the fourth flight. Zeoli (6-3, 6-1) and Adam Glynn (6-4, 6-3) pulled the dual match level with straight-set victories.
The Tigers then got within one point of winning the match as Marlon Brand defeated Nikolas Papic 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 spot.
Fresno State rallied though with a pair of three-set wins. Euan McIntosh began the rally. The sophomore dropped his first set to Sem Verbeek 2-6, but he came back to win the next two sets with identical 6-3 scores. Komati then won his first set over Alex Hamilton 6-1, but he dropped the second 3-6. The sophomore kept his undefeated season in tact though, with a 6-2 win in the third set to clinch the dual match for the Bulldogs as he moved up to the No. 2 spot for the squad.
The `Dogs will face Santa Clara on the road at 12 p.m., PT, on Saturday. The dual match will follow the Fresno State/Santa Clara women's match.
