LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Locked in another epic battle with Wyoming, the Fresno State men's basketball team made clutch shots and key defensive stops to earn a rare 64-59 road win over the Cowboys on Wednesday night at Arena-Auditorium.
The win marked the second-ever victory for Fresno State (13-15, 8-7 Mountain West) in Laramie and first since 1994. Wyoming (21-7, 10-5 Mountain West) lost for just the second time at home this season to drop to 16-2 inside the AA.
To get there, the Bulldogs gave one of its better defensive efforts of the season and used a game-best 23 points from junior team captain Marvelle Harris to take down the Cowboys, who were ranked as high as 25th in the nation earlier this season.
"I'm really proud of my guys with a great road team win against a well-coached team!" fourth-year Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry tweeted after the game. "Come support this group on Saturday, Red Wave!"
With three games remaining in the regular season, Fresno State can secure a first-round bye in the 2015 Mountain West Tournament with a win in any of those three games (Saturday vs. New Mexico, March 4 vs. Air Force or March 7 at Boise State) and a UNLV loss to either Wyoming, San Diego State or San Jose State. The Bulldogs can also lock up the first-round bye by winning at least two of its final three games.

In addition to Harris' 23 points, he also grabbed five rebounds and a game-high three steals. Julien Lewis had 13 points and Paul Watson added eight for the Bulldogs.
Wyoming's Riley Grabau sank a pair of 3-pointers and Josh Adams hit another to start the first half, but the Cowboys saw their lead erode as Fresno State went up 18-15 on an Emmanuel Owootoah 3 and the Bulldogs led 25-21 at halftime. Fresno State improved to 11-0 this season when leading at halftime.
The lead changed hands eight times and no more than four points separated the teams in the second half until a Lewis layup gave Fresno State a 59-54 lead with 2:19 to play. An Alex Davis dunk made it 61-57 with 18 seconds remaining and the Bulldogs executed its late-game offense and defense when it counted.
"When you believe in what we're doing, great things will happen, and tonight our guys believed," Terry said. "Our group has fought through adversity and never stopped working."
