Sophie Watts Named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State junior Sophie Watts has been named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
The No. 47-ranked Watts claimed a pair of No. 1 singles victories and one No. 2 doubles match win for Fresno State, as they defeated No. 73 UC Santa Barbara 6-1 and Sacramento State 6-1.
The junior from Hitchin, England won both of her singles matches in straight sets; securing a7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) win against UCSB's Jaimee Gilbertson. She then scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sacramento State's Alina Soltanici. The wins were her 10th and 11th in a row this season.
Teaming with twin sister Anneka Watts at No. 1 doubles and the sisters bested Sacramento State's Olivia Boija and Tori Trylovich, 8-3 for their fourth-straight win while playing together.
The weekly conference honor is Watts' second of the season and fourth that the Bulldogs have claimed as a team this season.
