FRESNO STATE
Head Coach Jaime White
On her thoughts about trailing by two at the half...
"We thought if we kept it close in the first half we'd have a chance."
On what changed in the game...
"We switched up our defense, made free throws late in the game, and Alex [Furr] made a few good 3's. bHer being 3-for-3 was huge for us. "
On playing back home at the Save Mart Center...
"Feels good to come back home and play in front of our home crowd, and they were great tonight. We'll see what happens next!"
On attacking the lane late in the second half...
"I felt like they were getting a little bit tired and felt like we could drive and get to the line a little bit more."
Redshirt Senior Guard Alex Furr
On the type of game...
"It was very physical game".
Junior Forward Moriah Faulk
On hitting her free throws late in the game...
"I got in the zone and knew that my team needed the win so I was going to do whatever it took".
Junior Center Toni Smith
On being outsized against opponents, but still being physical...
"I feel like I'm always outsized, so I'm used to that. I felt like this was a fair match-up. They were physical with us so I knew I had to pull out, but at the same time show them that I am as physical as they are."
On playing in the WNIT...
"This is exciting. We're having fun. We know it's serious and we want to win, but at the end of the day we're playing and having fun. Today, I felt like it was whole new season."
SAN FRANCISCO
Head Coach Jennifer Azzi
On the season and game overall...
"For USF standards, it's been a really good season, but no one likes to end their season with a loss. We had the lead most of the game and it just kind of came down to taking care of the ball, and turnovers killed us."
On Fresno State's postseason experience...
"Fresno showed the signs of their maturity as a program. They've been in post season eight years in a row. "
On USF playing in the WNIT...
"This is the first WNIT we've been in since 2001. Most wins this program has had in 18 years."
On the free throw line...
"Free throws are not something that we've struggled with this season. Sometimes the ball just doesn't go in."
On the difference between last year's matchup with Fresno State...
"Fresno is a very different team than they were a year ago, and we didn't make good decisions with the ball."
On her thoughts about Fresno State's chances in the WNIT...
"Fresno is a very good team. Tournament time is about who's playing well together, who has momentum, and who has confidence. I think they've got a great shot at whoever their next opponent is going to be".
Senior Guard Taj Winston:
On USF's style of play...
"We always want to push the ball, that's who we are that's how we like to play. That's something we live for. We like to play aggressive, we like to get up and down the court, we like to get to the rim, and that's just part of our game."
On the team having 20 turnovers...
"It's about being smart with the ball. We want to push the ball but we need to know when to stop".
On what happened late in the game...
"It's a little heartbreaking because we did have the lead. They started to creep their way back in and we started to fall a little bit. We looked up at the scoreboard a little too much. We got down on ourselves and it seemed like they wanted it more than we did."
