Bautista Shoots 71 in Eugene to Lead 'Dogs

EUGENE, Ore. - The Fresno State men's golf team fired a 6-over 294 final round at the University of Oregon Duck Invitational, its lowest score of the 54-hole tournament at Eugene Country Club. The Bulldogs used that to move up one position on the team leaderboard following Monday's first two rounds to finish in 13th place.
"We had a good solid round of golf today," said head coach Chad Spencer. "Consistency has been an issue most of the season for us, we needed a better start. It's hard to play from behind."
Individually for Fresno State, Neil Bautista made the biggest move on the final day as he moved up 18 positions behind the Bulldogs first and only under par round (1-under, 71) at the Duck Invite. He finished in a tie for 33rd. Bautista used a steady diet of par golf en route to his tournament best day, paring 15 of 18 holes. He birdied two on the back nine and bogeyed once Tuesday, on the par-3 second hole.
"Neil came back strong and shot a great round," Spencer added. "I was very happy to see that."
Michael Pugh and Keenan Nelson shared the highest birdie total Tuesday, going below par four times each. They both found success birdying the seventh and ninth holes, both par-5 holes.
The men's golf team will take next week off before its next tournament. They'll be back in action April 10-12 at the El Macero Classic, hosted by Sacramento State.
