FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State Athletics will be hosting the eighth annual Night of Champions Gala on Monday, May 4 at the Save Mart Center.
The Night of Champions Gala is the end-of-the-year event recognizing all student-athletes for their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments and community service involvement over the past year.
The Gala has grown so big the Athletic Department had to move it out of the Satellite Student Union that hosted it for the first six seasons and into the Save Mart Center to make room for not only the 450 student-athletes, but the coaches, staff, BDF members, boosters and guests of the department.
Parties interested in sponsoring student-athletes for the evening and attending the event may also do so through the Bulldog Foundation. Table sponsorships are available at $500, which sponsors dinner for 10 student-athletes. General Night of Champions sponsorships for individuals will also be accepted at $50.
Individuals looking to sponsor a table or general student-athlete may do so by contacting James Sewell in the BDF at 559-278-1564 or at jsewell@csufresno.edu. All other inquiries on the Night of Champions may be directed to Jason Clay at 559-278-6577 or jaclay@csufresno.edu.
The Night of Champions Gala starts at 6 p.m. with the red carpet walk for the student-athletes followed by dinner at 6:30 and the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
A reception will be held for Bulldog Foundation members in attendance from 6-7:30 p.m. in the BDF community room in the Save Mart Center where cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Student-athlete hosts for the awards gala are senior midfielder Holly Cisneros from the lacrosse team and outside linebacker Ejiro Ederaine from football. In addition to the end of the year department awards that are issued out, the evening also features a number of highlight videos as well as light-hearted videos showing the character and sense of humors of the Bulldog student-athletes.
At the BDF reception there will also be a silent auction as well as a live auction of art from former Fresno Bee artist Perry Huffman, who donated his Bulldog athletic artwork to the department. All proceeds from the sale of the artwork would benefit the student-athlete scholarship fund.
Live auction items available will be two of Huffman's prints of the late Jerry Tarkanian and one of legendary Bulldog football coach Jim Sweeney.
In addition to the live and silent auctions at the Night of Champions, Fresno State will also be auctioning off more of Huffman's work online through gobulldogs.com with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund. Items available on the online auction beginning on Monday, April 20 include:
- Print of Darryl Lamonica
- Print of Jerry Tarkanian
- Print of Jerry Tarkanian with Diana Ross and Wayne Newton
- Historic Print Fresno County's Finest
