FRESNO, Calif. --- With experience in all areas of athletics development and revenue generation, Franklin Alegria has been hired as Fresno State's senior associate athletics director for external development, Director of Athletics Jim Bartko announced Friday. Alegria's first official day at Fresno State will be August 3, 2015.
"Franklin brings a wealth of knowledge and understands the different facets of working in the world of development today -- from the annual scholarship fund to major gifts to naming rights," Bartko said. "He will be a wonderful addition to our staff as we collaborate with campus regarding our fundraising initiatives."
Alegria comes to Fresno State from the University of Oregon for the past six years, where he most recently served in the Portland Office for the Duck Athletic Fund.
"Coming to Fresno State and having the chance to work with the Bulldog Foundation and all of its members and board is an exciting opportunity and challenge," Alegria said. "I look forward to being a part of the team that will make a difference in the lives of all Fresno State student-athletes. I can't wait to get to work."
Alegria was a key member of Oregon's team that helped to raise $17 million in annual fund donations along with an $8 million increase in season ticket revenue. He was also a significant part of the team that solicited major gifts and naming rights for the $220 million Matthew Knight Arena and the Hatfield-Dowlin Football Operations Complex.
In addition, Alegria was extremely instrumental in the creation of the Women in Flight program, a fundraising initiative specifically for Oregon women's athletics which successfully solicited a $1 million donation to begin the funding of the program. He also helped gather, manage and allocate scholarship funds for student-athletes.
Alegria was elevated to the role of associate director of development for the Duck Athletic Fund in January 2013. He joined the Oregon athletic department in 2006 as a teamwork intern for football and later also served as an intern for senior athletic administrators.
Alegria graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics in 2009. He and his wife, Brittany, were married in 2015.
