Jaime White, Fresno State Head Coach
On the game tonight…
"I thought Emilie Volk did a great job defensively. Bego (Faz Davalos) and Alex (Furr) did a great job knocking down free throws at the end. Who said free throws don't make games, because they definitely do. Our players probably didn't play the best tonight, but they grinded it out. Brittany (Aikens) came in and did a good job knocking down some great shots. San Diego State is a lot better than their record is. They did a good job tonight."
What was said at the last timeout when they were up by three…
"We just wanted to make sure that we defend well and make sure they didn't have a lot of time on the clock left if they make a quick basket. We defended well and switched some screens on the three-point shooters. They still got a good shot off, but Brittany (Aikens) did a good job of getting her hand up."
On what halftime adjustments were made…
"I didn't think we played our best in the first half. We knew if we could just play like we normally do then we would be better in the second half. We needed to get the ball inside. SDSU made it tough to get the ball inside, but that's what we really needed to do. The physicality made us hurry up and we didn't want to do that in the second half."
On the opponents this week…
"I don't think anyone is pleased with the way we played tonight, just pleased with a win. I wish we didn't even know the records of our opponents. You kind of have to stay oblivious to records and not read into the stats. It's all about match-ups. You can never not respect the game and you always have to respect your opponent."
On Emilie Volk coming off the bench after an injury to Kendra Martin…
"When Kendra Martin got hurt we all just wanted to sit and cry with her. We've had to go through that this week. It doesn't matter which player it is, when a part if your family/team gets an injury like that you feel with them. We had to redefine ourselves. We talked about someone stepping up into that position and take on her minutes. This was our first game with out her and we felt it a little bit. Emilie is such a good kid and she's worked so hard. We hope that Emilie can step in and do some stuff for us."
Toni Smith, Senior Forward
On turning the game around…
"We know how to comeback. We have a lot of focus and confidence to make comebacks. We just try to play through it. We have players that can come off the bench that we can rely on."
On rebounds…
"They are a very athletic team. They know how to time the rebounds off the rim. We did a better job of blocking out."
On being home…
"It feels great. I love playing in the Save Mart Center. This is my last season, so every game at home is amazing."
On keeping their winning streak going…
"The more we win, the more we keep rolling and building off of the last win. We are 6-0 in conference and that's our motivation. This is a great feeling."
Bego Faz Davalos, RS Sophomore Center
On success tonight…
"My teammates did a great job of passing the ball to the post. I think that was huge for us."
