FRESNO, Calif. - Head coach Jessica Giglio announced on Wednesday that senior Sophia Aragon and juniors Caroline Dineen-Carlson and Chyna Hill will be the Fresno State women's lacrosse team captains for the 2016 season.
Aragon, a Seal Beach, Calif., native who has started 43 of 45 games as a defender during her Bulldog career, is second on the Fresno State all-time ground balls list with 69, four shy of tying Holly Cisneros (2012-15) for first.
"Sophia has been an impact player since her freshman year," Giglio said. "She is a true leader on the field. She is skilled and has the ability to be disciplined, but aggressive. It's great to see her as a vocal leader and watch her take this team to where she thinks it needs to be."
Dineen-Carlson, a Coronado, Calif., native who has started all 30 games as a midfielder during her Bulldog career, led the team with 30 goals last season, a program record.
"Caroline is one of those players that has been a great leader by example," Giglio said. "She's someone that we see pushing our team to get better every day."
Hill, a redshirt junior from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., has started all 30 games as a midfielder during her Bulldog career, but will be sidelined during the 2016 season due to an injury.
"Chyna is a great leader from the sideline and motivates the team," Giglio said. "It takes a strong, mentally tough student-athlete to do that. She wants to be a coach some day and this is a great way to grow. We can't wait to have her back on the field next season, and we're lucky to have her help out this year."
