All active duty military and veterans get free admission to Fresno State’s season opener on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans’ Day. Single-game tickets start at $10 through www.ticketmaster.com and the Save Mart Center Box Office.
FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State men's basketball team defeated the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes 76-69 in a Tuesday night exhibition at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State senior guard/forward Paul Watson scored a team-high 19 points with six rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Jaron Hopkins added 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
The Bulldogs threw down six dunks, including a one-handed put-back slam dunk by Paul Watson in the second half.
How It Happened: Fresno State built a 10-point lead over CSUSB in the first six minutes and 48 seconds of the game before allowing the Coyotes to go on a 10-0 run over the next 1:41. Fresno State took the lead for good on a Jaron Hopkins lay-up with 7:08 remaining in the second half.
Quotable: Reaction from Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry and senior guard/forward Paul Watson
Head Coach Rodney Terry
"It was a really good game for us. Cal State San Bernardino has a lot of junior college transfers and Division I transfers, so we knew they were an older team that was going to come in and compete. Our younger guys got the chance to play against older guys and they got the chance to grow tonight. Our defensive intensity at the start of the game was good but we need to sustain that intensity for longer periods of time. It's early in the season and tonight was the first time under the lights for some of our guys, but we showed what we could do in stretches of the game."
"Paul Watson has been the most consistent leader on our team, on and off the court. He's grown a lot over the last four years. He worked really hard this spring and summer and he played well for us tonight. "
Senior Guard/Forward Paul Watson
"I worked on my shot a lot over the summer to become a more consistent knock down shooter. I felt comfortable out there and I just tried to get the best shots I could out of the offense."
Notable: All statistics in exhibition games are not official.
