FRESNO, Calif. - With the countdown to baseball season now in the single digits and the start of the season right around the corner, GoBulldogs.com recently caught up with junior pitcher Jimmy Lambert to find out his goals for the season, the toughest part about being a student-athlete and his favorite superpower.
Lambert enters his junior season after making a team-high 13 starts in 2015. The San Dimas, Calif. native posted a 4-2 record with a 4.66 ERA and notched a team-high 75.1 innings on the mound. He earned a spot on D1Baseball.com's top 300 prospect list for the 2016 MLB Draft released at the end of January checking in as the 186th-best prospect and the second-highest in the Mountain West.
Q: What are some Fresno State team goals for 2016?
Lambert: I want to win the Mountain West, move on to a regional, super regional, and then advance to the College World Series.
Q: What part of your game did you work on the most during fall ball?
Lambert: In the fall, I really tried to work on my off-speed pitches and fastball command.
Q: What is your favorite memory as a Bulldog?
Lambert: During my freshman year, our first series down at UC Irvine is definitely my favorite memory. It was an exciting atmosphere and they had a lot of big name players. We went into their place and won two of the three games in the series. That was cool!
Q: Did you have a favorite major league player that you looked up to as a kid?
Lambert: I have always looked up to Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The work he does not only on the field, but off the field as well. He is a really good guy. He is good with the community and he is probably the best pitcher in the major leagues.
Q: What is the toughest part about being a student-athlete?
Lambert: I would say time management. You have practice, games and traveling. There is a lot of things you have to manage with school and baseball.
Q: What is one thing people may not know about Jimmy Lambert?
Lambert: I actually like to go golfing a lot.
Q: If you could play another Division I sport, what would it be?
