FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team is back on the links Saturday for the Peg Barnard Invitational, its first tournament since winter break. While the 'Dogs were off, GoBulldogs.com was able to catch up with some team members for a three-part Q&A series. In this third installment, we chatted with sophomore Mimi Ho.
Q: Reflect upon your fall season and how you felt you performed individually and how you all did as a team?
Ho: I think we had a great fall season. Everyone was on top of their game. It was great individually, Hannah [Sodersten] did really good, G [Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir] did really good, everyone was shooting some low scores. It was great to have two individuals get in the Top two, Joanna getting second in a tournament [and Hannah]. Team wise I think we broke a lot of our own records, set some really good goals, and we achieved some of them as well. I think we did really well as a team and hopefully we'll carry on the momentum for this coming season. Individually, I think I picked up quite a bit of rhythm at end of the season, it started off a bit slow, but it turned out pretty good.
Q: You talk about gaining rhythm and confidence as the season went forward. How would you gauge your confidence level right now as you head into the spring?
Ho: Right now I'm feeling pretty good. I think that we're going to shoot some really scores. More over last season [fall], when we were going into the 60's, and I think that we can carry that on and hopefully breaking some more records.
Q: Is there a certain aspect of your game that you are working a little harder than the rest that you're wanting to improve the most?
Ho: Yes. For me it's my short game. Because at this level everyone is playing really good with their longer clubs or approach shots, but when it comes to around the green there is more for me to work with. Especially putting, I think that's the winning factor.
Q: Is there a certain tournament on the schedule that you are looking forward to more so than any other?
Ho: Our home tournament and our first tournament at Stanford. First of all at Stanford, it's really good competition. I think there a lot of strong teams there and we are ready to compete with them. I think we are at that level now that we are in contention with those teams. And for our home tournament, I hope more people can come out and support us. It's going to be a good field and a lot a good teams there.
Q: Does it give you any extra motivation as a player to play in some of those higher profile tournaments where the field is really strong?
Ho: Yes. I think that really helps me build confidence and learn from other players. It's good to be in that kind of environment, just to keep pushing.
Q: Are there any specific goals that have been set either individually or as a team?
Ho: For the [fall] season team wise, we've been finishing very well, in the top three's. I think we just need to carry that on and hopefully win our home tournament and a few others, I think we are at that level now and we are ready to do that. And for me, of course I'm dreaming big, I hope that I win a tournament too. But just finishing in the top five or 10; that would be great.
