Rodney Terry, Fresno State Head Coach
On winning in double overtime...
"It was big. UNLV made some shots; we have to give them credit. They came down and were on fire. We had a little spell where we weren't making shots, and that happens throughout a game. I thought our guys showed a lot of grit down the stretch and really finished the game strong."
On the difference between Wednesday night's game against San Jose and tonight's game against UNLV...
"I thought our guys came out with a lot of energy to start the ball game. They had a lot of positive energy in practice yesterday, they had positive energy in last night's team meeting, and that carried over to the floor today from the bench to the guys on the floor."
On their defense tonight...
"Our focus was on getting a stop to go into overtime. We buckled down hard and our guys did a good job of finishing possessions."
"We had a great crowd. That sixth man tonight gave us an unbelievable energy. Obviously, we play in a lot of venues in this league and we're making the Save Mart Center a hard place to play. The Red Wave was really big for us."
On the senior leaders on the team...
"Harris and Lewis made plays. It was a game that got down to who was going to make the most plays and finish possessions. I thought these guys were pivotal guys down the stretch and getting it done at a high level. Julien Lewis was great in the middle and Marvelle Harris making shots from the outside. These two were working the game even when they missed a few shots, they kept playing. They were the difference making big plays down the stretch and executing through a zone offense."
On Cullen Russo's performance tonight...
"Cullen works on his free-throws it's not that he doesn't work on those he stepped up in a pressure situation and knocked them down. I thought he has a positive mindset from start to finish and it carried over into the game."
On Marvelle Harris...
"Marvelle has really grown over the course of his career here. He's been a guy that has become a student of the game. He watched film, takes time for preparation, understands his opponents, and what he has to do against the defense. He has become a smarter basketball player and he's put the time in."
Marvelle Harris, Senior Guard
What was the difference for you today, wedn it was hard to find anything that would fall and today you scored 37 points...
"Just having confidence and my teammates trusting in me. They kept telling me to keep my head up and to move to the next one"
Did you guys feel a different energy before this game as a team...
"The energy was great coming into the game. Last night, we had a great night together. We talked about a lot of things. We were just together today, it was a great environment in the Save Mart Center. Our team was together as a unit."
In regards to Terrell Carter II's performance this game...
"Terrell was great today. He's always positive on the bench, in the locker room, and even when we are back at the dorms. He's just a positive person. Every time he gets his chance he takes advantage of it and today he did a great job. He came off the bench with great energy and he gave us what we needed. He did everything we asked him to do tonight."
In regards to being number two on the all-time scoring list...
"It's all about the team and winning games. Those are great individual accomplishments but what we want to focus on is the win tonight"
In regards to him hearing when they announced that he became the second all-time leading scorer in program history...
"No, I didn't hear it. I usually just zone all that stuff out and just focus on the game."
In overtime after he made that chase down foul, he looked animated, a little frustrated. What was going through your mind at that point?...
"I just had got out of my element but my teammates came to me and was like calm down, we got it just stay focused, trust us, everything is going to be okay. As a leader I made a mistake there and I apologize to my team for that, for getting out of my element but they did a great job of helping me get my head back in the game."
Julien Lewis, Senior Guard
On his ability to attack a zone defense so effectively...
"Just instinct, I use my instinct. I move without the ball and I play with my teammates when we are on offense. Once I get an open spot I feel I can create and make it better our offense."
On hitting back-to-back shots in OT...
"I just did what I always practice. The defense gave me the chance to come on the screen, hit a big range jumper so I took the jumper. My teammates always keep me confident and comfortable within the offense. They tell me to take that mid right shot so I just did what I do in practice everyday.
How big a win is this heading into San Diego game...
"Every game is a big game for us and the way we come out each and every day, every game should be the high level intensity game. When we play UNLV it's a high level game and the next game we have coming in is San Diego State. We need to look past these games we just take one game at a time and we know our focus is going to be on San Diego State now and we should come out with the same tremendous energy we came out with today against the UNLV rebels."
