Bjorgvinsdottir named MW Golfer of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir was named Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday. She has been selected the conference's golfer of the week in back-to-back tournaments that the Bulldogs have competed in dating back to March 9 after the Fresno State Classic.
This week's honor recognizes her efforts at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by Hawai'i, on March 22-23. Bjorgvinsdottir finished T-13th as Fresno State's top individual after an opening round 76 and back-to-back even-par scores (72). Bjorgvinsdottir was 6-over-par on the first 14 holes of the Dr. Donnis Invitational and proceeded to go 2-under-par over the next 40 holes. She finished with a 4-over-par 220, 54-hole score.
The Bulldogs' top player led the team to a sixth-place finish against a 16-team field that included eight top 100 teams and eight top 100 individuals.
Bjorgvinsdottir has led Fresno State with its lowest individual tournament score over the past two tournaments and finished in the individual top 15 of the last three events she participated in. Her season scoring average dipped to a 73.20 following last week's event and she now owns the No. 1 Fresno State season scoring average nine tournaments into the season (25.0 rounds).
Through four spring tournaments, Fresno State has had one its golfers named the MW Women's Golfer of the Week in three of the four events. Kristin Simonsen received the accolade on Feb. 17 after the Peg Barnard Invitational (Feb. 13-14). Bjorgvinsdottir after the Fresno State Classic (March 7-8) and Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational (March 22-23).
