AZUSA, Calif. - For the second time this season, Annemarie Schwanz broke an existing school record she already held. On Friday night it was the 1500-meter at the Bryan Clay Invitational, clocking a 4:17.03 at Cougar Athletic Stadium. Earlier this season, it was the 5000m at the Stanford Invitational.
The Bulldogs long distance standout now owns the top 1500m time by more than seven seconds of the next best mark, set by Shannon Leider (4:24.68) in 1992. Schwanz set the record for the best 5000m run at 16:05.58 on April 1, the next best time in that race by a Bulldog is 16:26.4, set by Renee Ortiz in 1984.
Schwanz registered the third-best run out of 191 runners Friday night.
Outside of Schwanz, five others took to the track Friday night, each from the men's team.
Three of the four Bulldogs that entered into the 800m posted personal bests - Uriel Cabanas (1:50.96), Esteban Vega (1:50.98) and Jack Kuzminsky (1:55.49). Cabanas and Vega crossed the finish line ninth and 10th, respectively, out of 92 runners. Kuzminsky placed 58th while Jacob Schwarm (1:56.64) placed 68th.
Chris Grimble busted his old PR set in 2015 in the 1500m on Friday. He clocked a 3:50.22, which was the 64th best time out of 207 runners.
