FRESNO, Calif. Fresno State head women's basketball coach Jaime White announced the signing of 6-foot-2 post player Sharae Chalmers. The forward/center joins the Bulldogs out of Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas.
Chalmers is a three-time all-district honoree, earning first team accolades in 2015-16, second team in 2014-15, and honorable mention as a sophomore. After a big senior season in which she averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game, she was named the District 9-6A Defensive Player of the Year. Chalmers helped Nimitz reach the first round of the state playoffs in each of the last two seasons after a more than 10-year absence.
"We're very excited about signing Sharae," White said. "She's been a little bit of a late bloomer, and didn't play club last year so we turned over a lot of bushes to find her. She gives us a lot of strength inside. She's a very physical player at 6-foot-2, and I haven't seen anyone that can defend her on the drop step. She's a good person that I think will really flourish in our program."
A powerful inside presence, Chalmers is the third player 6-foot-2 or taller to join the Bulldogs' 2016 class. All five players in the class are listed as at least 6-foot.
Chalmers will be one of three players on next year's roster who hail from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, joining Tory Jacobs (MacArthur; Irving, Texas) and Raven Johnson (Skyline; Dallas, Texas).
