Watts twins earn awards from ITA Northwest Region

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that Anneka Watts and Sophie Watts claimed two of the Northwest Region's eight post-season awards. Anneka was named the ITA Most Improved Player (Senior), while Sophie earned the ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship.
In her final season at Fresno State, Anneka was a key piece to the Bulldogs' lineup as she posted a 22-11 singles record and 27-6 doubles record en route to earning being named the region's Most Improved Player among seniors. In dual play, she was 15-7 in singles and 13-3 in doubles, both career bests for a single season. This year, she accounted for 11 more combined wins in dual play than a season ago.
Given annually to a Division I women's tennis player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis, Sophie earned the Cissie Leary Award.
On the court, she earned 186 combined wins during her career, and ranks seventh in singles wins with 98. She is both a three-time All-Mountain West Singles and Doubles selection, was the 2015 MW Player of the Year, and reached the Round of 32 at the 2015 NCAA Women's Singles Championship. Off the court, she is a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection and a two-time MW Scholar. Last year, she was selected to the Capital One Academic Women's At-Large Team for District 8 with a 3.96 GPA while majoring in biology.
