FRESNO, Calif. - With the addition of sophomore transfer Aubrey Folk, the Fresno State volleyball team rounds out its four-person incoming class for the 2016-17 academic year. As a right-side hitter from Aztec, N.M., Folk played her first collegiate season at Tulane University in New Orleans, La.
"Aubrey adds size and experience to our front line," head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell said. "She's long and has confidence in her ability to block. She'll be an asset to us in slowing down our opponents attack and giving us another big swing from the right."
The 6-3 outside hitter served as a Tulane Green Wave starter in all but one of the 32 matches played last season. As a top three team-leader, Folk averaged 1.74 kills, 0.49 digs and 0.72 blocks over 121 sets, with three assists. The team went 10-22 overall and logged a 4-16 mark in American Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
Prior to her collegiate debut, Folk was a four-year letterwinner at Aztec High School where she helped the Tigers to a 48-44 overall record, a runner-up finish in District 1-5A action (12-11), and a trip to the state playoffs as a senior. She was also named to the all-district first-team in her final three campaigns and a 2014 District 1-5A MVP.
Folk also lettered once in soccer and played club volleyball for Four Corners VBC in 2013 and 2014. Off the court, she graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and claimed Academic All-District 1-4A recognition in 2012 and 2013, while earning the Aztec Board of Education Scholastic Award (2012-14).
Joining Folk as Bulldog newcomers are a pair of freshmen - outside hitter Montez Uigaese and defensive specialist Courtney Johnson - along with redshirt sophomore Haile Watson, a transfer from Eastern Washington University.
