San Diego State wins volleyball rematch

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego State hit .326 on the night and had six service aces to win the rematch with Fresno State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-20), in San Diego on Tuesday night after the 'Dogs beat the Aztecs earlier this season.Â
San Diego State (14-12, 8-5 MW) continued its hot streak, winning its fifth straight match and winning for the seventh time in eight matches since losing to the Bulldogs, 3-1, in Fresno on Oct. 3. Fresno State (9-16, 4-9 MW) had a 9.0-5.0 blocking advantage on the night.
Senior Lauren Torres had five kills on no errors on six swings, hitting .833, and had a match-high five blocks with two solo. Taylor Slover led the Bulldogs with eight kills and had four digs and Brielle Hefner also had five kills.Â
How it Happened
San Diego State hit .351 to take the first set. The Aztecs had 18 kills in the set but the Bulldogs stayed close with three blocks and trailed just 18-15. SDSU then went on a 6-0 run to reach set point, and after a Bulldog block the Aztecs took the set on a kill from Baylee Little.Â
Fresno State had a great start to the second set, going on a 5-0 run with consecutive blocks to force an early SDSU timeout. The Bulldogs still led 8-7 before San Diego State went on a 10-0 run to pull away. San Diego State hit .375 in the set and held the 'Dogs to just six kills and 10 errors to take it.
The Bulldogs put together a strong third set, hitting .350 with just four attack errors and tallying three blocks. Fresno State led 15-14 before SDSU put together another big run, scoring seven straight points to take a 21-15 lead. The 'Dogs got back within a 21-18 deficit and trailed just 23-20 before the Aztecs ended the match with a kill and a Bulldog attack error.

Torres' .833 hitting percentage was a single match career high (min 5 kills), topping the .714 she hit at San Francisco earlier this year…The Bulldogs outblocked the Aztecs 15.0-8.0 and held SDSU to a .114 hitting percentage in the first meeting between the teams but San Diego State was able to hit .326 Tuesday on its home floor…The 'Dogs have now played 18 matches away from Fresno this season (13 road and five neutral) compared to just seven home matches.
