White, Noyer lead Bulldogs over Fresno Pacific in exhibition

Fresno State’s defense holds the Sunbirds to under 35 percent from the field.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's basketball hosted Fresno Pacific in an exhibition matchup on Friday night at Save Mart Center. After getting off to a slow start, the Bulldogs turned up the offense and clamped down on defense to cruise to a 93-59 victory over the Sunbirds.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a tough start in the opening period as Fresno Pacific jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minute and led 11-10 at the first stoppage. Fresno State would find its groove though on offense and would hold the Sunbirds without a field goal in the final 2:39 as the Bulldogs led 21-16 after one quarter.

Fresno State kept its foot on the gas pedal in the second as the 'Dogs poured in 25 points, but it was the defense that helped extend their lead. By halftime, the Bulldogs had forced 14 Fresno Pacific turnovers and held the Sunbirds to 37.5 percent shooting. Candice White had 12 points after two quarters as Fresno State led 46-30 at the break.

The third quarter belonged to Katelin Noyer as the sophomore scored 11 of her 15 points in the period. Coupled with White, the two combined for 20 of the team's 25 points in the period. The defense continued its dominance and limited Fresno Pacific to 16 points as the 'Dogs took a 70-47 advantage into the fourth.

Thanks to a 9-0 run in the middle of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs led by a score of 80-51 with 4:59 left in the game and went into cruise control the rest of the way, downing the Sunbirds 93-59.

Fresno State will host Eastern Washington in its regular season-opener on Nov. 10 as a part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women are slated to follow the men's game and will tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m.Â
