Fresno State senior guard Jaron Hopkins scored 26 points to lead the way for the Bulldogs, who beat LBSU by 36 for the Bulldogs’ largest margin victory in a road win in school history.
LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The Fresno State men's basketball team cruised to a record-setting 106-70 wire-to-wire victory at Long Beach State on Saturday inside Walter Pyramid.
Â
Fresno State (6-2) was clicking on all cylinders from start to finish, while recording the program's largest margin of victory ever in a road win. The 36-point road win was four points better than the previous mark of 32, which happened back on Dec. 3, 1981 when the Bulldogs won 75-43 at UC Davis.
Â
Long Beach State (3-6), who traditionally has one of the toughest strength of schedules in the country, struggled to handle the Bulldogs' pressure, execution and relentless effort.
Â
Fresno State senior guard Jaron Hopkins scored a game-high 26 points for his second straight game with over 25 points. Bulldogs' junior guard Deshon Taylor added 23 points, while sharp-shooting guard Jahmel Taylor stroked in five 3-pointers as he had 17 points, six assists and three steals.
Â
How it happened: Fresno State raced out to a 21-1 lead over Long Beach State and extended its lead to 51-28 at halftime. The Bulldogs led by as many as 37 in the second half and kept grinding down the stretch, even while getting all 12 players on their travel roster in the game.
Â
As a team, Fresno State shot 61.3 percent (38-for-62) for the game, with equal distribution of field goals made and attempted in each half. The Bulldogs converted 50 percent (10-for-20) of their 3-point field goal attempts and had a steady 90.9 percent (20-for-22) clip at the free throw line.
Â
Up Next: Fresno State will host CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday at 7 p.mm. PT to tip off a 5-game homestand.
