’Dogs dominate Mustangs 83-63 to improve to 8-2

Fresno State junior guard Deshon Taylor scored a game-high 21 points to help lead the Bulldogs to their sixth straight win. Fresno State is now 8-2 on the season and starts a five-game homestand on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- The Fresno State men's basketball team defeated the Cal Poly Mustangs 83-63 on Saturday night inside Mott Athletics Center.
With the win, Fresno State (8-2) has now won six straight games, including its last two road wins coming by 20 or more points, and the Bulldogs have won their last 11 games played in the state of California.
Fresno State junior guard Deshon Taylor scored a game-high 21 points, with three 3-pointers and a 10-for-10 clip at the free throw line, and senior guard Ray Bowles, Jr., added 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, Fresno State senior center Terrell Carter II had his most efficient offensive effort of his four-year career as a Bulldog. Carter had 16 points by 7-for-7 shooting from the field and making both free throws he attempted.
The Bulldogs return home to the Save Mart Center for a Wednesday night game versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. PT when Fresno State starts a five-game homestand.
How it happened: Fresno State led for nearly 39 of the 40 minutes in the contest and used an 8-0 run to build a 15-8 lead over Cal Poly – a lead the Bulldogs would never relinquish in their second straight dominating road performance.
As a team, Fresno State shot 51.0 percent (26-for-51 FG) from the field and made half of its 3-point attempts (9-for-18 3FGA). The numbers in the second half were even more sizzling as the Bulldogs converted at a 63.8 percent rate (14-for-22 FG) from the floor and also made 93.3 percent (14-for-15 FT) of its free throw attempts in the final 20 minutes.
Five Bulldogs scored at least 10 points for Fresno State, who saw its defense limited a sharp-shooting Cal Poly squad to just 36.7 percent shooting (22-for-60 FG) for the game.
Fresno State led by as many as 27 points late in the second half.

- This is the third time in Terry's tenure (since 2011) that Fresno State is on at least a six-game winning streak. It is also the Bulldogs' longest nonconference win streak in Terry's tenure and the program's longest since opening the 2006-07 season by winning the first seven games of the season.

- Fresno State has now won 11 consecutive games when playing in the state of California.
