Junior earns her second weekly honor of the week after averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks last week.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State center Bego Faz Davalos was named Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. It is the fourth weekly honor of the junior's career, and second this season.
Â
Needing a pair of wins last week to keep pace for a bye in the conference tournament, Faz Davalos stepped up in a big way, averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in two road contests. Â Â
On Saturday, the junior recorded her 16th double-double of the season at San Diego State by recording a game-high 23 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks. The 23 points was one shy of her career high while the 19 rebounds tied her career best, a feat she has accomplished three times this season. Faz Davalos got the Bulldogs after to a fast start, scoring eight points during the opening nine minutes to give the 'Dogs a four-point lead. Late in the game, with the lead at seven with 1:40 on the clock, and the Aztecs looking to mount a late comeback, the 6-foot-3 center was inserted back into the lineup and scored almost immediately, taking her defender on one-on-one in the paint to push the lead back to nine.
Â
Earlier in the week in Colorado, Faz Davalos registered 17 points and seven rebounds against Air Force. The junior was crucial in starting Bulldog spurts, scoring six points to open the second quarter to start a 9-0 run, and five points to begin the third quarter and kick start an 11-0 run which put the game out of reach for the Falcons. Â
Â
Faz Davalos and the Bulldogs return to the Save Mart Center on Wednesday as the team plays second-place Wyoming at 7 p.m. PT.
