Fifth-year senior earned her second-consecutive trip to the Eugene finishing by finishing in the top five of her quarterfinal heat.
AUSTIN, Texas – Annemarie Schwanz gave the Fresno State women's track and field team its third NCAA qualifier this week as the senior placed fifth in heat two in the quarterfinals of the 1,500 meters on Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Her time of 4:18.97 was the fifth-fastest in the field.
For Schwanz, the trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., will be her second in as many years. The senior finished seventh at last year's national meet to claim All-America honors. She will be seeking to become the first distance runner in program history to be a two-time All-American. The semifinals of the 1,500 meters will be contested 4:46 p.m. on June 8 with the finals on June 10 at 3:41 p.m. at Hayward Field.
A day after qualifying for NCAAs in the discus, Kayla Hopkins competed in the shot put. The junior finished 46th with a mark of 44'-4.75" (13.53m).
Hopkins and Schwanz will be joined at the NCAA Championships by Vanja Spaic who qualified in the javelin on Thursday. Competition in Eugene will begin on June 7 with Fresno State scheduled for events on June 8 and 10.
