Wilson knocks-off No. 47 Lavender in straight sets as ‘Dogs fall to No. 20 LSU, 4-1

Bulldogs suffer two top-20 losses during ITA Kick-Off.
DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Emma Wilson picked up one of the biggest singles wins of her career on Sunday, defeating No. 47-ranked Elyse Lavender, 6-3, 6-2 at Sheffield Tennis Center. It was the lone win for the Bulldogs against No. 20 LSU in the consolation match of the Duke bracket of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Fresno State was narrowly edged out in doubles play as Wilson and Georgia Lawson dropped a 7-5 result on Court 1 after Katerina Stloukalova and Juliane Triebe picked up a 6-3 victory on Court 2. With the score tied, Alessia Dario and Olivia Noble pushed Lavender and Luba Vasilyuk to a tiebreak before falling 7-2.
With the Tigers holding a 1-0 lead, Wilson leveled the dual match by easily dispatching LSU's top-ranked player in straight sets. The Tigers' other ranked players though, earned straight set wins on Court 3 and 4 to take a 3-1 advantage. LSU clinched the win on Court 5 as Georgia Lawson was edged 6-4 in the third set against Kennan Johnson.
Next Up
Fresno State will remain on the road for its next two matches, traveling to Seattle, Washington on Feb. 2. The Bulldogs will face Washington on Feb. 2 before playing a neutral site match against Denver the following day.
