Rice named honorable mention for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week

Fresno State junior tight end Jared Rice has been recognized as an honorable mention for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.
NEW YORK - Fresno State junior tight end Jared Rice has been recognized as an honorable mention for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, as announced by the John Mackey Award on Wednesday morning.
The Modesto native had a career-high seven receptions last Saturday in the 'Dogs 27-3 win over Wyoming while leading the team with 94 receiving yards.
Rice caught one of two touchdown passes from quarterback Marcus McMaryion in the game making a 35-yard reception in the first quarter (watch).
He later added a key 16-yard reception in the second quarter on a 3rd-and-13Â that extended a drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by McMaryion and gave the Bulldogs a 13-3 lead heading into halftime.
On the season, Rice ranks second on the team in receptions (26), receiving yards (349) and receiving touchdowns (2) while his 69-yard reception in the third quarter at Nevada is the 'Dogs longest play from scrimmage so far this season.
This week's award was given to teammates for the first time since the inception of the award as Iowa tight ends Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson shared the weekly award after combining for a total of 208 receiving yards and three touchdowns last Saturday in a 42-16 win at Indiana.
Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger joined Rice as an honorable mention this week after leading the Aggies with 145 receiving yards and added seven receptions and a touchdown in a 26-23 win at South Carolina.
The 2018 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 5, 2018 and then presented live on Dec. 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the 2018 Mackey Semi-finalists on Nov. 15, 2018 and the 2018 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 22, 2018. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by Tight Ends during the active season. The Tight End of the Week acknowledgment does not have a direct bearing on the final John Mackey Award selection process. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week honor will run until the announcement of the eight Semi-Finalists.
