Thibault, Hall fire top 10 scores at Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown
BOULDER CITY, Nev. -Â The Fresno State women's golf team wrapped up its fall slate in record-breaking fashion on Tuesday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by UNLV at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Bulldogs finished the tournament in seventh place with an even-par 864, but Fresno State also saw Brigitte Thibault earn a runner-up finish while Jessica Hall placed seventh to give the 'Dogs two top 10 individual finishes.Â
Â
The Bulldogs' even-par 284 (291-292-281) was the third best three round total in program history and their final round 281 was the second best single round score in program history. Each of the program records were set at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in the 2015-16 season.Â
Â
Thibault, a sophomore, led the Bulldogs through the entirety of the tournament. Thibault finished in second place with an 11-under-par 205 (69-70-66), just two strokes behind the individual medalist Lorena Tseng from Tulsa. The sophomore's second place finish was her best career finish and the best of any Bulldog since Mimo Ho placed second at the LVCS in 2017.Â
Â
Thibault's three round total (205) was enough to tie the all-time lowest three round total program record set back in the 2006-07 season by Jennifer Shipley at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invite.Â
Â
The sophomore's record-breaking performance didn't stop there. Thibault fired a 6-under-par 66 in round three of the LVCS for a career-low single round score. The 6-under round ties for second best in program history for lowest one round total. Thibault joins Louisa Lies who fired a single-round 66 in the 2009-10 season. Thibault carded a 139 (69-70) through the first two rounds, enough to tie the program's lowest two-round total. The Canada native sits with Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottirwho set the record at the Fresno State Classic in the 2015-16 season.
Â
Freshman, Hall, had a personal-best third round at the LVCS with a 5-under-par 67. Hall finished the tournament in seventh place with a final three round total of 209 (72-70-67). With a low scoring final round (67), Hall tied Madchen Ly (2014-15), Mimi Ho (2015-16) and Kristin Simonsen (2017-18) for the third lowest one round total in program history.Â
Â
Hall also sits alone in third place in the Fresno State record book for lowest three round total with her 209 fired at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.Â
Â
"I am certainly excited and proud of these ladies for fighting through the third round and finishing off strong," said head coach Emily Loftin. "It is always exciting to see young players like Brigitte and Jess get personal bests to cap off a great week. It certainly shows the capabilities of these young players and what this team is capable of."
Â
Redshirt junior Kristin Simonsen shot an even-par 72 in the third round to finish the tournament tied at 68th. Simonsen fired a 11-over-par 227 (74-79-72) through the three rounds.Â
Â
Junior Dominika Gradecka fired a 4-over-par 76 in round three for a three round total of 226 (76-74-76) to place her tied for 64th at the end of the tournament.Â
Â
Junior Danielle Richman tied for 77th to cap the LVCS. Richman carded a 9-over-par 81 in the final round for a three round total of 231 (70-80-81), playing as an individual.Â
Â
Freshman Harriet Lynch also shot a 9-over-par 81 in the final round, she finished 89th at the conclusion of day three. Lynch carded a 25-over-par 241 (82-78-81) throughout the course of the LVCS.Â
Â
The Bulldogs are back in action on Feb. 18-19 for the Rebel/Beach Invitational co-hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.Â
Â
"I'm looking forward to the off season and working on a couple of key points," Lofitn added. "We have certainly seen some bright spots throughout these past four tournaments, but I am excited to see what's ahead for them in the spring."Â
