Bulldogs drop regular season finale at No. 2 Auburn, 15-2

AUBURN, Ala. - The Fresno State equestrian team dropped its regular season finale at No. 2 Auburn, 15-2 on Saturday morning at the Auburn Equestrian Center.

Fresno State has not scored less than three points since facing Texas A&M in the NCEA Championships on April 14, 2016.

In the fences, Fresno State could not match Auburn's high 80-plus score rides as the Tigers swept the Bulldogs in the event, 5-0. Fresno State did not earn a point in the fences for the first time this season.

The Tigers kept the momentum in the Western arena, defeating the Bulldogs 4-0. Junior Katelyn Altenhofel tied in her ride against Deanna Green with a score of 72. Junior Taeya Harle had a team high score of 74, but fell to Auburn's Kelsey Jung with a 75.5.

Fresno State trailed 9-0 at the break.

The Bulldogs saw their first point of the day in equitation on the flat. Senior Sierra Swaffar picked up her point in a 72-63 ride against Ashton Alexander for the final ride of the event. Swaffar moves to 7-4-1 in the flat this season. Junior Brooke Nelson tied Caitlin Boyle, 61-61, to hold the Tigers to four points in the event.

Fresno State added another point in the reining. Junior Kara Gustafson secured her third reining victory of the season in a 66-0 ride against Green. Sophomore Paige Barton tied in her matchup with Betsy Brown, 70-70.

UP NEXT: Fresno State will compete in the United Equestrian Conference Championships on Fri., March 30 and Sat., March 31 in Dallas, Texas. Opponents and times will be announced by the conference at the end of the regular season.
