Fresno State fades in final round, finishes ninth at Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Fresno State men's golf entered Sunday's final round at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in eighth place. The Bulldogs ascended to seventh at one point but faltered a bit down the stretch to finish in ninth out of 12 teams. A pair of freshmen in Lane Pulliam and Kevin Huff spearheaded the 'Dogs in the third round, as both carded 3-over-par 75s.

With their 3-over-par 75s in the final round, Pulliam finished tied for 23rd at 7-over-par for the tournament while Huff concluded the two-day event in a tie for 31st at 10-over-par.

Alex Lee had an interesting final round. Lee shot even par on the front nine, and while he sunk three birdies on the back, he also had a double bogey and took a nine on the par-4 seventeenth to finish with a 5-over-par 77. The junior ended the tournament a tie for 35th with an 11-over-par 227.

Michael Cliff shot 3-over-par on both nines in round three as he carded a 6-over-par 78. The freshman finished tied for 40th place with a 13-over-par 229.

Justin Avery's final round was hampered by seven bogeys as the junior fired a 7-over-par 79 on Sunday. Avery finished the event at 19-over-par.

The 'Dogs will be back on course on March 12-13 as they will compete in the Mackenzie Match Play Tournament. The two-day event will be played at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. and hosted by San Francisco.
