Nikolaeva leads Bulldogs on first day of NCAA Zone Diving Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Fresno State was among 22 schools competing on 1-meter on the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Monday at the Wall Aquatic Center on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
Fresno State's three divers – junior Kelli Funk, sophomore Serena Sedillo, and redshirt sophomore Irina Nikolaeva – were among 59 divers competing on the board and looking to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Nikolaeva led the Bulldogs with a score of 250.00 to place 23rd in the prelims, narrowly missing a top-18 finish to qualify for the final. Competing at the Zone meet for the first time, Nikolaeva finished ahead of divers from schools including Pac-12 programs UCLA, USC, Cal, and Stanford.
Funk scored 182.45 while Sedillo tallied 177.75 after missing one dive.
The 3-meter competition takes place on Tuesday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Sedillo broke the program conference meet record on 3-meter, scoring 329.10 on the final to finish in third place at the MW Championship while all three divers placed in the top 15 in the 3-meter prelims at the conference meet.
