Fresno State’s Georgia Lawson, Deniza Marcinkevica and Ella Husrefovic won titles in Berkeley on the opening weekend of play for the Bulldogs’ women’s tennis team’s fall season.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team delivered some great efforts throughout the opening weekend of fall action with the Bulldogs competing in both the prestigious ITA Oracle Masters and the Cal Nike Invitational.
"Every day we are getting better," Fresno State head coach Mariana Cobra said. "Our players are competing and doing the things we have been talking about the past month in representing Fresno State. We are excited to continue to build throughout the season with hard work."
ITA ORACLE MASTERS
Singles – Shir Azran reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Oracle Masters Women's Singles Consolation Draw by defeating Army's Ana Joyner in three sets [2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3)] before falling in a close straight-set battle with Brindtha Ramasamy of Miami-Ohio.
Azran represented the MW as the conference's top returning player and the only competitor in the MW since Fresno State joined the league (2012-13) to win at all six singles positions.
Mixed Doubles – Azran played with fellow Bulldog and MW Men's Tennis Player of the Year in the mixed doubles competition. The duo fell to Stuart (Mercer) and Kozarov (Furman) 6-0 in the round of 32.
CAL NIKE INVITATIONAL
