SACRAMENTO --- The Fresno State men's basketball team lost 68-58 to the Saint Mary's College Gaels on Wednesday night at Golden1 Center.
Fresno State freshman guard Jarred Hyder scored a team-high 20 points for his third consecutive game with at least 20 points.
Saint Mary's (4-1), who was ranked in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, was led by Jordan Ford, who had a game-high 24 points.
Fresno State (2-3) will return to action on Nov. 30 at CSUN and then host UNLV on Dec. 4 at the Save Mart Center.

Â
The Gaels outshot the 'Dogs 51.0 percent to 42.3 percent from the field, and Fresno State had seven assists on 22 made field goals. Saint Mary's took advantage of the Bulldogs' 11 turnovers, which led to a 23-9 advantage for the Gaels in points off turnovers.Â
Quotes:
Justin Hutson, Fresno State head coach
On Jarred Hyder's development…
"Jarred's going to be a good player. I like him. With the more experience he gets, the better he's going to be because he's going to be comfortable out there on the floor. There are still a lot of things that he's not comfortable with… but when he's able to start deciphering that stuff … right now, your first year, you're just learning where to go. Your second year you learn why. He really shoots it well off the bounce so they doubled and at that point in time we have to move it and get other guys shots."
On the team's next 10 days before playing at CSUN on Nov. 30….
"We have to see who is going to step up in these seven, eight days of practice that we'll have and move forward from there. But the most important thing is to get healthy."
Jarred Hyder, Fresno State freshman guard
On the Bulldogs' second-half rally...
"I have to be more consistent when it comes to taking care of the ball. We'll get back in the lab and work on that and we'll be better. You always have to bounce back. It's always a next-play mentality. I wasn't really thinking about it too much. You just have to keep going when that happens and try to make another run. We made runs where and there, but we never really finished it. We'd cut it down to five, six. But when we get that close we have to make another push and we failed to do that tonight."
On getting more shots…
"Just trying to play within the offense. I don't try to force much. If they give it to me, it's there. But at the same time I'm trying to get teammates involved and run the offense."
