'Dogs earn highest team ranking in program history

WACO, Texas - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced its last team rankings of the fall season and the Fresno State equestrian team made program history as it received its highest-ever team ranking on Tuesday. The Bulldogs check in at No. 4 in the NCEA rankings, a move up from No. 5 last week.

The Bulldogs finish the fall as the second-highest Big 12 team behind No. 2 Oklahoma State. The 'Dogs defeated the Cowgirls 14-5 on Oct. 25 at the Student Horse Center.

"We are very excited to have another program first this season," said head coach Eric Hubbard. "This team has worked very hard and we will continue to work hard once we are back from this break. We want to finish out the year strong. I am proud of this young team."

The NCEA also released its first event rankings of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday and Fresno State was ranked in the top 10 in each of the four events.

In the Jumping Seat, Fresno State is ranked No. 10 in the Fences and No. 7 in the Flat.

The Bulldogs are in the top five in both Western events. The 'Dogs tied their highest-ever rank in the Horsemanship, coming in as the fourth ranked team in the NCEA.

A second Fresno State record was broken on Tuesday as the Bulldogs received their highest-ever ranking in the Reining, checking in at No. 2 in the NCEA behind Auburn. The Bulldogs are 21-10-4 in the event through the fall season.

Fresno State finished the fall season with a 4-3 record with three top 10 wins over then-No. 2 Texas A&M, then-No. 3 Oklahoma State and then-No. 8 Baylor.

The collegiate equestrian season resumes in the spring and the Bulldogs return to competition with a home meet versus No. 1 Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. Auburn remains the No. 1 team in the country after its undefeated 18-0 showing and national championship last season, and a 7-0 start to the season this year.
