Fresno State finishes preseason with five exhibition matches

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State water polo team will head to the Bay Area for five exhibition games over the weekend, three scheduled on Saturday at Stanford and a pair of games on Sunday at Cal Berkeley. The Bulldogs are slated for a rematch with the Canadian National Team, as well as contests against Cal, San Jose State, Stanford and UC Davis.
A glance at the 'Dogs:
Fresno State hosted the Canadian National Team in its only home exhibition match of the fall on Thursday, Nov. 7, falling 20-4. The Bulldogs gained valuable experience against Canada, a team that has already qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Fresno State was led by Claire Schade who tallied two of the Bulldogs' goals. Madelynn Garcia started in goal for the 'Dogs.Â
2019 Season Recap
Fresno State finished the 2019 season nationally ranked No. 16 with an overall record of 14-15 (4-3 GCC). The Bulldogs finished the regular season in fourth place, earning the No. 4 seed in the Golden Coast Conference Tournament. Fresno State took home third place in the GCC Tournament after defeating San Diego State, 15-10. Fresno State had four GCC Player of the Week awards during the season. Emily Nicholson earned All-GCC First Team accolades, Callie Woodruff notched All-GCC Second Team honors and Daphne Guevremont was named to the GCC All-Freshman Team. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Richards represented the Bulldogs on the GCC All-Tournament Team.

A glance at the 'Dogs:
- Head coach Natalie Benson enters her third season as the head coach of Fresno State.
- Fresno State brings back 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers.
- Fresno State returns its top two goal scorers and All-Golden Coast Conference selections in Emily Nicholson (56) and Callie Woodruff (52).
- Fresno State also returns goalkeeper Madelynn Garcia who has seen action in 34 games over the past two seasons.
