‘Dogs break two more program records on day two in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Irina Nikolaeva won the 3-meter consolation final, Zofia Niemczak broke her own school record in the 500 Free, and the Bulldogs broke the 400 Medley Relay team record to highlight the second day of the MW Swimming & Diving Championship in Minneapolis.
Fresno State is now in fifth place, just behind New Mexico and with a comfortable lead over sixth-place Colorado State. There are two more days remaining in the conference championship with some of the best Bulldog events still to come.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Irina Nikolaeva won the 3-meter consolation final, Zofia Niemczak broke her own school record in the 500 Free, and the Bulldogs broke the 400 Medley Relay team record to highlight the second day of the MW Swimming & Diving Championship in Minneapolis.
Fresno State is now in fifth place, just behind New Mexico and with a comfortable lead over sixth-place Colorado State. There are two more days remaining in the conference championship with some of the best Bulldog events still to come.
Swimming Highlights
- Niemczak broke her own program record time in the 500 Free prelims, placing third in 4:49.21 to break her previous high mark of 4:51.54 set last year. Brenda Diaz Martinez was 12th in prelims to make the B Final and Emma Monnich was 19th to reach the C Final. Niemczak swam 4:50.30 in the A final to finish eighth overall while Diaz Martinez was seventh in the B final.
- Osianna Mcreed had a PR of 23.03 in the 50 Free prelims, placing seventh overall to make the A final. She topped that in the final, tying for fifth with a time of 22.82 that is the second fastest time in program history as she is one of just three swimmers in the history of the program to break 23 seconds in the event.

- Manuela Mendolicchio was 15th in the 200 IM prelims to make the B final while Ugne Mazutaityte, Lucy Davies, and Stephanie Bartel qualified for the C final. Mazutaityte was second in the C final in 2:02.60, the second fastest time in program history, Mendolicchio touched in 2:02.63 to place fifth in the B final with the third fastest program time, and Davies now has the fifth best time in program history as she finished in 2:03.39 in the C final.
- The 400 Medley Relay closed the session and the Bulldog quartet of Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Kimberly Harbert, and McReed placed fifth in 3:41.29, breaking the program record of 3:41.56 set last year.
- All three Bulldog divers earned points on 3-meter after also doing so on 1-meter.
- Nikolaeva and Kelli Funk both reached the consolation final on 3-meter. Nikolaeva was 10th in the prelims scoring 278.05 and Funk was 16th at 270.05. Freshman Yuliya Tykha scored 243.10 to finish 22nd in the prelims in a field of 33.
- In the consolation final, Nikolaeva topped the field of eight with a score of 303.35, consistently putting up big scores throughout her six dives to win by 8.10 points. Funk placed eighth in the consolation.

- Niemczak has broken two individual records during the meet and holds four individual program records in the 200 Free, 500 Free, 100 Fly, and 200 Fly.
- Last year the 'Dogs were in 10th place after the second day of the MW Championship.

What's Next
- Friday's slate includes the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 200 Free Relay. There are no diving events as the platform competition will take place on Saturday. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. Pacific time and finals get underway at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
