Lee catches fire, cards 6-under 66 in second round of Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. – Paced by a red hot Alex Lee that was 6-under (66) on Monday, the Fresno State men's golf team carded a 7-under 281 and moved up to fourth place after the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship. Lee tied a career-low for an against par score while the team score was the lowest single round versus par of the 2018-19 season.

"We had a really good day today," said head coach Chad Spencer. "Alex [Lee] played a flawless round and the team was very solid. Now we are in great position heading into the final round. We are expecting windy conditions again tomorrow and this team plays very well in the wind. We are excited for the challenge."

Fresno State's team score rivaled its single round 280 earlier in the fall at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite, but it was on a par 71 course which resulted in a 4-under-par score. Lee tied his career-low for an against par score with his 6-under 65 at Poppy Hills Golf Club, also a par 71 course, at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Oct. 7, 2017. The 65 at that event remains his career-low.

During Monday's round, Lee opened with two pars and then traded a birdie for a bogey on the following two holes. From that point forward he shot 6-under over the next 14 holes while going bogey-free. Lee carded a 3-over 75 in round one and sits in a tie for fourth place at 3-under for the tournament.

Lee wasn't the only one playing well in Monday's second round as the trio of Kevin Huff, Tommy Stephenson and Cody Riecks each shot par or better golf and positioned themselves each in the top 25. Huff (T-23rd) carded a 1-under 71 while Stephenson (T-19th) and Riecks (T-23rd) shot an even-par 72, respectively.

Seldon Doyle fired a 4-over 76 in the second round and now sits in a tie for 67th.

The final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship gets underway at 8 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start. Live Stats can be viewed at Golfstat.com.
