'Dogs earn four second-place finishes at UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Competing at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, Fresno State scored five top-three finishes on Saturday at Drake Stadium. Three of the Bulldogs' top results came from the women's team in which each individual placed second.

In the field, Varvara Klyuchnikova narrowly missed the top spot in the high jump as she finished second based on attempts in the event. The senior's best clearance of the day came at 1.73m/5-8. Breanna Covington also grabbed a second-place result in the long jump, her top finish of the spring, as she landed a mark of 5.56m/18-3.

Running the 400 meters for the first time this spring, and the first since finishing fourth at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, freshman Patricija Roshofa placed second, clocking a time of 54.37. In the 100-meter hurdles, Jestena Mattson clocked a personal-best time of 14.11 to record her second-place finish.Â

Earning the men's top finish was freshman David Barajas who finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.31.

In total, Fresno State recorded 13 top-five finishes on the day.

Up Next
Fresno State will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational starting on April 18. The three-day meet is hosted by Azusa Pacific.
