INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, the Fresno State women's tennis, and men's cross country and track and field programs earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for posting multi-year academic progress rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of their sport, announced on Wednesday.
Â
All three teams earned the NCAA's highest possible multi-year score with a perfect mark of 1,000.
It is the fifth-straight year for the women's tennis team to receive the NCAA's public recognition for a perfect multi-year APR the award while it is the fourth for the men's cross country team.
Â
The academic progress rate is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
Â
Eleven Mountain West institutions were represented in Wednesday's announcement, with Fresno State's three teams tied for the second-most of any school in the conference. In total the conference had 24 teams recognized.
Â
All Division I teams' APR scores will be released May 8. All teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
Â
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 academic years.
