FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team will host Oregon in its 2019 home opener on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. PT at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. Before the Bulldogs battle the Ducks on the pitch, GoBulldogs.com sat down with senior defender Danielle Pacheco.
The Fresno, Calif. native joined the 'Dogs last season, transferring from Fresno City College and made an immediate impact on the team's defense.
Last season, Pacheco played in all 20 games for Fresno State and chalked 19 starts for a Fresno State defense that ranked third in the conference in goals allowed and limited Mountain West opponents to an average of 0.90 goals per game. The Bulldogs also recorded three shutouts during conference play.
Prior to Fresno State, Pacheco helped lead Fresno City to the 2017 Junior College National Championship, after a near-perfect 25-0-2 season. Pacheco was named the Junior College National Player of the Year.Â
We asked her a variety of questions from her most memorable moment as a Bulldog to what the hardest part about being a student-athlete is. Â
Q: What are you looking forward to for your senior season?
Pacheco: "I'm looking forward to having a great season with my teammates and pursuing a Mountain West Championship."
Q: What lessons has soccer taught you that you can use off the field?
Pacheco: "Soccer has taught me how to work as part of a team, and to always work hard in all aspects on and off the field."
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a Bulldog so far?
Pacheco: "My most memorable moment was when we beat Boise State at their place last season. Boise was the conference leader and undefeated at home."
Q: Talk about a time that one of your teammates has inspired you:
Pacheco: "There was a time when I was really down on myself, and Jordan Brown was there to pick me back up and boost my confidence."
Q: What is the hardest part about being a student-athlete?
Pacheco: "The hardest part is managing your time with school and athletics. You have to find enough time to perform in the classroom and on the field."
Q: Is there a funny saying or catchphrase that Coach Zwaschka always says?
Pacheco: "He always says 'bring it back just hair' during film sessions."
