Cliff finishes 5th, ’Dogs take 6th

Fresno State’s Michael Cliff and Tommy Stephenson earned Top 15 finishes and powered the surging Bulldogs to a sixth-place team finish in their season-opening tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Fort Collins Country Club.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Fresno State junior Michael Cliff finished tied for fifth place at 2-under-par to lead the Bulldogs' men's golf team to sixth place in a competitive 17-team field at the 2019 Ram Masters Invitational at Fort Collins Country Club.
Cliff was one of two Bulldogs to post scores in the top 15 of the 95-man field with Fresno State sophomore Tommy Stephenson shooting ever-par in the two-day, three-round event.
Fresno State freshman Matthew Sutherland made his Bulldog debut in the season-opening competition, which featured five Mountain West squads. Sutherland tied for 36th and made the third-most pars (41) of any individual in the invitational.
Fresno State was one of three Mountain West programs to receive votes in the 2019 Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Preseason Poll released by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Aug. 23. The 'Dogs earned the second-most preseason votes in the conference and has appeared numerous times in national polls throughout the program's history.
Fresno State's next tournament this fall will be on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 when the Bulldogs host the Nick Watney Invitational at Fort Washington Country Club.
