Fresno State senior guard Noah Blackwell scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, in the Bulldogs’ loss to Boise State on Saturday. The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround with a road game at Air Force on Tuesday night.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's basketball team was handed an 87-53 loss by the Boise State Broncos on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center.
Â
This is the third time in the last five years that Fresno State (6-14, 2-7 Mountain West) has lost its only regular season contest against Boise State (13-8, 5-4 MW) in the conference's 18-game league schedule.
Â
Fresno State senior point guard Noah Blackwell scored all of his team-high 14 points in the first half, including four 3-pointers.
Â
Boise State was led by Abu Kigab, who finished with a game-high 23 points.
Â
How it happened: Fresno State jumped out to an early lead by making free throws and attacking the basket, which fueled a 7-3 lead for the Bulldogs three minutes into the game.
Â
But the Broncos quickly answered and used a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. Boise State led for more than 32 minutes, which included a 35-26 advantage at the break. The Broncos scorched the nets and disrupted the Bulldogs' offense even more in the second half en route to the 34-point rout.
Â
Fresno State was outscored 31-10 in points off turnovers and 32-20 in the paint, with Boise State shooting 54.2 percent from the field, including a blistering 14-for-28 clip (50.0 percent) from beyond the 3-point line. The 'Dogs committed 19 turnovers and had just four assists on 16 made field goals.
Â
One bright spot for the Bulldogs in an otherwise inefficient overall performance: Fresno State went 17-for-19 at the free throw line (89.5 percent).

Quotes:
Justin Hutson, Fresno State head coach
On his message to the team…
"Just to let them know the consistency that we need to play with and keep letting them know we care about them. We love them. We're going to make them better and we have to do better than this. It wasn't good enough, but why? I think the bigger picture is why. You build confidence with the 'why's.'"

Noah Blackwell, Fresno State senior guard
On how he felt after the game…
"It's frustrating, I mean we lost by 30 - that's never happened at home. It's just frustrating knowing how good we are and that we are not performing as well as we could. I just told the boys to keep their heads up. We still have a talented team."
Â
Player Notes:
Noah Blackwell – 14 points, 5-for-7 FG (4-for-5 3FG)
