Bulldogs earn runner-up finish in Vegas

All five 'Dogs finished in the top 25
LAS VEGAS - Fresno State junior Brigitte Thibault opened the spring season with a third place outing after firing a 6-under-par 210 and leading the team to a runner-up finish at the Rebel Beach Invitational at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas. Thibault tied her season-low round with a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday.

As a team, the Bulldogs had a strong performance in their spring season-opening tournament. Through the first 36 holes on Monday, Fresno State had shot its program's second lowest two-round total with a 572 (286-286). The Bulldogs continued the fight on Tuesday, firing a 289 in the final round to finish the tournament with the program's third lowest three-round total (861). The Bulldogs were just one of two teams to shoot under par in the tournament. No. 3-ranked USC claimed the win at the tournament with a 25-under 839.

"I am really excited for this group to kick off the spring with such a strong start and really compete at a high level," said women's golf head coach Emily Loftin. "I am excited to see Brigitte get a top three finish against some really strong individuals, and kudos to all of our ladies finishing in the top 25. It was a great start, and a testament to their hard work and the effort they have put in day in and day out. We are really looking forward to a quick couple of days of rest and recovery before we get back after it at Long Beach."

Thibault tied her best finish of the season with a 6-under-par 210, matching her performance at the Palmetto Invitational (Oct. 13-15). The junior Bulldog led the 66-golfer field in birdies and par 5 scoring in the spring opening tournament. Thibault continues her pace of collecting top 10 finishes in each tournament this season.

Sophomore Harriet Lynch finished the tournament T7th, tying her highest finish on the season. She fired a 1-under-par 215 (71-73-71) with 12 birdies at the Rebel Beach Invite.

Freshman Jinyoung Yun had her lowest collegiate three-round tournament score of 218 (72-71-75) at the Rebel Beach Invitational. Yun finished the tournament tied for 11th for her second career top-15 finish. Yun opened the tournament with an eagle in the second round in her 1-under finish that day.

Senior Kristin Simonsen had her best outing of the season, breaking into the top 20 for the first time and registering her first round under par of the year on Monday. Simonsen finished T20th with a 5-over-par 221 (73-71-77). The senior had eight birdies in the tournament.

Sophomore Jessica Hall rounded things out for Fresno State as she finished T24th with a 7-over-par 223 (74-75-74). This was Hall's second lowest showing of the season behind her 221 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate (Oct. 13-15). The young Bulldog had her best finish in the individual standings of the season. The highest she had finished prior to this tournament was T35th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.

The Bulldogs have a short break before heading to Long Beach, Calif. for the Gold Rush Invitational and The Prospector (Individuals Only) on Feb. 24-25 at El Dorado Country Club.
