TUSCON, Ariz. - The Fresno State women's golf team finished play at the Wildcat Invitational with a fifth place finish, its sixth consecutive top five finish. The Bulldogs shot a 17-over-par 881 (302-287-292) in the tournament, hosted at the Sewailo Golf Club. Tournament host Arizona won the Wildcat Invitational with an 18-under 846 (280-278-288).
Â
"It was certainly a challenging week," said head coach Emily Loftin. "We had a tough start, but there were certainly some really great highlights in the middle. There were some good performances and comeback rounds from Jinyoung [Yun] and Jess [Hall] on Monday. We are really seeing growth in certain parts of the game, and that is exciting as we head to the later half of the spring season."
Â
The Bulldogs were led by junior Brigitte Thibault who finished tied for third with a 5-under-par 211 (70-72-69). Thibault made the move up from T6th yesterday. The junior had her second-lowest three round total of the season at the Wildcat Invitational, and collected her sixth top 10 finish on the year. Thibault becomes the program's leader in career par or better rounds after posting three in the tournament. She now has 35, and surpassed previous record-holder Madchen Ly who had 32.
Â
"It is always good to see Brigitte have another top finish. She bounced back after a tough event in Long Beach, and it is exciting to see her resilience and grit, and for her to get back out there and compete," said Loftin.
Â
Sophomore Harriet Lynch (76-74-74) and senior Kristin Simonsen (74-76-74) finished the tournament T29th with a 8-over-par 224, up three spots from the end of the day on Monday. Freshman Jinyoung Yun finished T46th with a 13-over 229 (85-69-75), and sophomore Jessica Hall rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs with a 14-over 230 (82-72-76) to finish T50th.
Â
"We are looking forward to having some time to regroup and get ourselves focused in a few particular areas as we get ready for the second half of the spring," added Loftin.
Â
Up Next - The Bulldogs head to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational on Mar. 19-21 before returning home to host the Fresno State Classic at the Copper River Country Club (Mar. 30-31).
