WACO, Texas - Fresno State equestrian assistant western coach Mary Brown was named the Baylor Athletics Western Rider of the Decade, as announced by its athletics department on Thursday. She earned a spot on its eight-rider All-Decade Equestrian Team (2010-19).
Â
"Receiving this honor means so much to me," Brown said. "A lot of amazing riders have come from the Baylor program and I am truly grateful for this award."
Â
Brown, who has been with the Bulldog program for three seasons, earns the award from Baylor after finishing her career with two strong seasons in the western arena. She was named the most outstanding performer in Horsemanship after helping her team to its 2015 Big 12 conference championship title. She also earned academic All-America honors in her time with the Bears. She was a Baylor student-athlete from 2012-16 and rode in both western disciplines.
Â
In her time at Fresno State, Brown has helped the western squads to record-breaking success as the horsemanship and reining teams have been ranked among the top in the NCEA. At the conclusion of the shortened 2019-20 season, the horsemanship team was ranked No. 5 and the reining was the No. 2 squad in the country.
Â
In her Bulldog coaching career, Brown has assisted in coaching seven western All-Americans, five United Equestrian Conference Riders of the Year, and four All-Big 12 selections including the Reining Rider of the Year this season.
