Fresno State sophomore Athena Clayson picked up two individual wins and a relay victory for the Bulldogs in a two-day dual meet at UCLA.
LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State swim team continued to build toward February with resilient efforts while battling through adversity during a two-day 177-115 dual meet loss at UCLA this weekend.
"We're getting better and taking advantage of every opportunity," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "We swam really well against a Pac-12 foe on the road. Our girls didn't back down. They got up and raced their races and made improvements from December."
Fresno State sophomore Athena Clayson led the Bulldogs' swimmers with wins in three races, including the 200-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle and the leadoff leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay.
"Athena really stepped up to the plate and was a big leader in and out of the pool," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said of Clayson's contributions during the two-day meet. "Our 200 medley was awesome. It's great to see Keren (Wasserman) coming into her own. Emily (Cutler), who swims back and free, swam fly for us in it today and Tonya (Guryeva) is doing a really good job."
Fresno State will next host against UC Davis on Jan. 23 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
