The Breakdown
FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets at home on Thursday evening to San Jose State at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (7-8, 3-4 MW) dropped sets 12-25, 14-25, 21-25 to San Jose State (11-7, 5-3 MW).
How It Happened
The opening set saw the Bulldogs trail by one after a Spartan attack error before the visitors reeled off a 6-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. Three straight points for the 'Dogs, including a service ace by Grace Doyle, brought the Bulldogs with four at 14-10, but an 11-2 run for SJSU ended the set.
The Spartans stayed red hot in set two jumping out to an 11-1 lead and extended it to as large as 20-6. The 'Dogs were able to notch eight of the final 13 points in the set closing out with four kills, two aces and two attack errors.
The third set saw the 'Dogs jump out to a 9-7 lead after a kill by Doyle, but the Spartans responded with a a 6-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. A 4-0 run by the Bulldogs cut the SJSU lead to 17-15 after a Spartan attack error. A kill by Savanah Smith and an ace by Brooke Cowie pulled the 'Dogs within one at 19-18, but Fresno State was only able to get within two the remainder of the set to fall in a sweep.
