Fresno State wins two medals, finishes sixth

LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State swimming and diving team won two medals on the final day of the 2021 Mountain West Championship, finishing in sixth place with a point total of 829.
Saturday night was highlighted by sophomore Athena Clayson's Gold medal finish in the 200 Back and junior Yuliya Tykha's Bronze medal finish on the Platform. Clayson had a strong performance in the pool over the week, earning a team-high 79 points, while Tykha led the Bulldogs on the boards with a point total of 76 points.
UNLV took home the championship with 1,349 points. Nevada was a close second with 1,340 points and San Diego State scored 1,309 points to round out the top three. Wyoming came in fourth with 965 points, followed by Colorado State (925), Air Force (726) and San José State (345).

SWIM HIGHLIGHTS
- In the 200 Back, Clayson finished first with a NCAA B Cut time of 1:56.76. Emily Cutler finished in fifth place with a time of 1:59.75.
- In the 1650 Free, Eydis osk Kolbeinsdottir logged an eighth place finish (17:15.77), Darina Khisiamova chalked a 15th place time (17:34.36) and Maya Gulvady was close behind in 16th (17:43.87).
- In the 100 Free, Samarah Melia finished in 16th with a time of 52.00.
- In the 200 Breast, Keren Wasserman took ninth place (2:17.17).
- In the 200 Fly, Mackenzie Hutler chalked an eighth place finish (2:04.60).
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
- On the Platform, Yuliya Tykha won the Bronze medal with a score of 235.30. This was the first time that Tykha has competed or practiced on the platform this season.
