'Dogs downed in four sets at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. - Despite winning the opening set, the Fresno State volleyball team fell in four sets at Air Force on Friday evening at Cadet East Gym.
Fresno State (4-3, 4-3 MW) fell 25-22, 15-25, 14-25, 15-25 to Air Force (5-4, 5-4 MW) as the Bulldogs were led by a career-high 16 kills from senior outside hitter Savanah Smith.
Senior Desiree Sukhov added eight kills, five digs, three blocks and a service ace.
Senior libero Jocelyn Rodriguez had her third match this season with 20 or more digs finishing with 21 while Julia Handy had a team-leading 16 assists.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a strong start in the match with an opening set win overcoming an early 14-10 deficit using a 6-1 run to take a 16-15 lead getting three kills and three attack errors by Air Force. A kill by Sukhov tied the set at 18 and the 'Dogs reeled off five more points, including three kills by Smith to take a 23-18 lead as the set closed out with a kill from Sukhov and a kill by Smith.
It was unfortunately all Falcons from there as they took the final three sets of the match. A pair of block assists by Sukhov and Grace Doyle got the 'Dogs within three at 13-10 in set two, but Air Force went on a 12-5 run to close the set.
A kill by Smith in the third set cut the Falcons' lead to 11-6 and the 'Dogs stayed within five at 14-9 after a kill by Doyle. That was as close as set three got as the Falcons close out on an 11-5 run.
A service error and kill by Rodriguez, her lone one of the night, brought the 'Dogs within one at 11-10 in the fourth set, but a 10-1 run by the Falcons put them up 21-11 as they cruised to a 25-15 win to close out the match.
