Five Bulldogs earn All-GCC honors

LOS ANGELES – The No. 11 Fresno State water polo team had five players earn Golden Coast Conference accolades, announced by the league Tuesday morning. The Bulldogs tabbed two first team, one second team and two freshman team All-GCC selections. Five is the most honorees that Fresno State has earned in program history.
Daphne Guevremont and Emily Nicholson were named All-GCC First Team honorees. Callie Woodruff earned an All-GCC Second Team nod. Kaitlin Howarth and Cynthia Rosa rounded out the Bulldogs' postseason awards, Howarth was named a GCC All-Freshman First Team selection while Rosa tallied All-Freshman Second Team honors.
Guevremont led Fresno State through the regular season with 33 goals, including 17 in GCC play. The junior has tallied eight multi-goal games, finishing with six hat tricks. The Quebec, Canada native chalked a season-high four goals twice, both times against GCC foes. She was named the GCC Player of the Week twice during conference play. Guevremont also logged 64 shots, 19 assists, 52 points, 10 steals and five field blocks this season. This is the second All-GCC award of her career. She was named to the All-Freshman team in 2019. Â
Nicholson was second on the team with 25 goals. The junior logged nine multi-goal games, including three games with hat tricks. She scored a season-high four goals on March 6 in the 22-13 victory over California Baptist. The Auckland, New Zealand native drew 59 exclusions, took 45 shots, earned 27 points, swiped nine steals and dished two assists. This is Nicholson's fifth All-GCC honor of her career. In 2018, she was named the GCC Co-Newcomer of the Year, received All-GCC Second Team honors and was named a GCC All-Freshman Team selection. She also earned an All-GCC First Team nod in 2019.
Woodruff was named an All-GCC Second Team selection for the second consecutive season. The senior scored 23 goals, took 57 shots, dished 11 assists, earned 34 points and swiped 13 steals. The Baytown, Texas native chalked six multi-goal games, including four with hat tricks. This is Woodruff's fourth career All-GCC award. She was named an All-GCC Honorable Mention and a GCC All-Freshman Team selection in 2018, before tallying All-GCC Second Team honors in 2019.
Howard was third on the team in goals with 24. She recorded six multi-goal games, including a career-high four goals against San Diego State (March 27). The Auckland, New Zealand native logged 47 shots, dished seven, tallied 31 points and swiped five steals.Â
Rosa led the conference in sprint wins, totaling 19. The freshman scored five goals, including two multi-goal games. The Montebello, Calif. native recorded 27 shots, dished 11 assists, earned 16 points and logged three field blocks.Â
The Bulldogs (10-5, 6-1 GCC) took a piece of the GCC regular season championship, finishing in a three-way tie for first place with San Diego State and Pacific.
Fresno State earned the No. 1 seed in the four-team 2021 GCC Women's Championships April 23-24. As the No. 1 seed, Fresno State will open the tournament against No. 4 Cal Baptist on Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m. PT.
