Stephenson’s season ends in Regional

Fresno State’s Tommy Stephenson finished the 2021 spring season with a 2-under-par 70 in the final round of the 2021 NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Fresno State sophomore Tommy Stephenson tied for 40th in the 2021 NCAA Albuquerque Regional, which was held this week at New Mexico's Championship Course.
After opening with a 76 in round one on Monday, Stephenson rallied for a 73 in round two on Tuesday and then closed with a 70 in round three on Wednesday. Stephenson finished 3-over-par (76-73-70 = 219, +3) in the 54-hole tournament, which was won by South Carolina's Ryan Hall.
Stephenson was the top-seeded individual at-large selection in the stacked field, which also included eight teams ranked in GolfStat's Top 50 – No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 14 Texas A&M, No. 22 Texas Tech, No. 29 New Mexico, No. 31 Stanford, No. 41 Oregon State and No. 47 Boise State.
With Stephenson's at-large NCAA Tournament appearance, the Bulldogs were represented in the postseason for the fifth time in the last eight NCAA Tournaments since Fresno State joined the Mountain West in 2012 (Alex Lee: 2018 & 2019; Trevor Clayton: 2016 & Rufie Fessler: 2013).
During the Bulldogs' five regular season tournaments in 2021, Stephenson produced a 70.06 stroke average (second-best in program history) with eight rounds in the sixties, four top ten finishes and never finished outside of the top 20.
Stephenson won the 2021 Bandon Dunes Championship in March and entered regional play ranked as high as 47th nationally in the most recent GolfStat.com collegiate individual rankings.
